Damn you, global warming!

We had 26F @ 7am. It's the third time we had temperature below freezing this winter and it starts to get on my nerves - that's not what Dec should be like in FL! Last year, which was the coldest winter on the record BTW, people (OK, Canadians) were still swimming in their pools in Dec!

Leaves on a young mulberry tree were all shriveled this morning despite the tarp covering and uncovered fig tree suffered some damage too. Oh well - hopefully, it's just the leaves. Surprisingly, the snap peas (uncovered) seem unaffected.

Sheep have to wait for the water facet to unfreeze before they can get their water but otherwise don't seem to be bothered by the cold, even the youngest lamb who is only 6 days old. Chickens stay in the shadow during the day, so I guess 50F is still too hot for them.

Upd: lots of damage to new growth on lemon, tomatoes (very well covered with huge green tomatoes on them) are probably dead

your fig and mulberry will be fine--both can survive temps into the single digits, maybe even colder. don't bother covering them.

kiss your tomatoes good-bye! i'm s glad i didn't bother this winter.

stay warm! low 20s here in deland. i'm sure colder inland.

Thanks - I'm glad to hear that about the fig and mulberry. We actually checked the hardiness before we planted them and they should be OK but they sure do look miserable.

My wife made some sort of a canned salad from the tomatoes, so the harvest was not completely wasted but the plants were dead in a few hours - you were right.

26 last night, supposed to be 22 tomorrow morning. And a couple of sheep look like they could give birth any minute. Usually they pretty smart about choosing good weather for this but the weather is so weird now, I'm really not sure this time. Will see...
